Tehran is prepared to restart nuclear talks with the United States on condition that it is approached with "dignity" and "respect", Tehran's top diplomat has announced.

Abbas Araghchi stated solely negotiations produced results, and disclosed fresh requests had originated from go-betweens to reopen discussions with the US government. He asserted Iran did not have unreported enrichment locations, and Tehran could not yet allow the UN nuclear inspectorate to visit struck enrichment centers for safety concerns.

Navigating a Complex Path

Araghchi is walking a challenging route since Iran wishes not to be seen to be acting from a situation of disadvantage, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had emerged more powerful defensively and mentally from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.

He was addressing at a security conference in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "an absolute privilege to enrich uranium within its borders that it will always maintain" – the primary cause of the impasse in the earlier negotiations.

Previous Negotiations Suddenly Ended

The prior phases of talks between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and bitter termination on 12 June when the Israeli government, with Washington's assistance, attacked Iran's enrichment centers in a 12-day war that concluded with Donald Trump declaring the sites had been obliterated. Subsequently, Western states exercised their authority to reinstate international penalties, but Iran asserts they have not had a major impact.

Perfect Agreement Suggested

Iran's diplomats said they felt they had achieved a "magic solution" to the nuclear fuel concern in previous talks, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with Washington's engagement could refine atomic fuel. The two nations would have been able to assert triumph since local refinement would have remained and the US could be certain that Iran's atomic project was solely for peaceful purposes.

It had not been decided in the negotiations that American atomic experts could operate inside Iran, but that was a logical implication of the cooperative offer. Diplomats claimed on multiple occasions they had secured an understanding with the US representative the US official only for the arrangement to collapse due to "spoilers in Washington".

Present Status

Repair and Reconstruction

In what is characterized by Iranian officials as the battle of restoration and rebuilding, the foreign minister stated he was assured Iran's military capacities "have significantly improved than prior to 13 or 14 June of this year. The nation of Iran have grown stronger, more united, and more endorsing of the administration and the nation in the wake of this assault."
